Our amazing team includes community members who represent a wide range of identities and life experiences. We are teachers, small business owners, health care professionals, artists, parents, high school and college students, local politicians, people who are LGBTQ+ and allies: above all we are invested in our shared goals around advocacy, education, and representation.
We began in the spring of 2020, as a loose collection of community members seeking to celebrate Pride safely during a global pandemic. What started as an effort to lift people's spirits quickly grew into a summer of programming, fundraising, and visible support for people who are LGBTQ+ in Orono and beyond. We organized the Orono Pride nonprofit as a way to continue our work with intention.
Our goals are rooted in advocacy, education, and representation. We aim to amplify, support, and promote LGBTQ+ organizations across the state of Maine. We envision a community that comes together to strengthen universal civil rights; safety in schools, workplaces, and recreational endeavors; and the resilience and self-reliance of Q+ individuals and families.
